*In Greek mythology, Hyperion was one of the twelve titan children of Gaia (Earth). Hyperion fathered Helios (Sun), Selene (Moon), and Eos (Dawn) with his sister, the titaness Theia.
**Denoting a period of time in the past that was idyllically happy and peaceful (Greek)
***The ultimate end (Greek)

III outlines a cycle of BIRTH, IMPRISONMENT, ESCAPE, INDOCTRINATION, REBELLION, DESTRUCTION, AND DEATH/REBIRTH. It is intended to be circular. Musically and conceptually the last track feeds back into the beginning of the album. It is heavily based upon ancient Greek thought and modern American political transgressions. The cave/graveyard cover imagery is a distorted reference to Plato's famous allegory of the cave. It represents an emergence from ignorance and a direct confrontation with a dark and harshly altered reality. Overall, it seeks to encapsulate the insatiable and beautifully devastating power of the human animal upon this planet.

ORIGIN
======

XI. Millirem — There is an outburst of radiation that discharges at the instant of birth or death. It embodies a universal energy that fluctuates within the core of reality. It is a quality that unites our perception of science, being, god, and ultimately the entirety of existence. Like an electrical charge oscillating through the fabric of nature human beings are a manifestation of these mechanics. Pulsation. Particles. Pre-consciousness.

Before the earth and after the earth

Millirem
Millirem

Wave of energy
It's inside of me

Wave of energy
It's inside.

Before the earth and after the earth

Bursting forth
Energy, energy
Bursting forth
Energy

Bursting forth
Energy, energy
Bursting
Bursting forth

IMPRISONMENT
=============

XII. Dwell -- Deep within an ancient and enormous cave there are prisoners long held captive. They are chained, gaze affixed, to the rear cave wall. Their experiences are vastly limited and mostly confined to visions of shadows, the clangs and dins of sounds from inside the cave, and the faint flicker of flames from raging fires lit behind them.

How long will they wait
To be liberated
From this system of…

system of constraint?

Constrained
Chain, contain, dwell
ENSLAVE!

Fooled, fooled, fooled, fooled
Fools….

Fucked.
Yuck.

They.
They have ushered them in
They will usher them out
This despite the strain of a
diseased heart

They.
They have ushered them in
They will usher them out
They have a diseased heart

Dwell

XIII. Death’s Waveform -- Those shackled within the cave are shown that a blazing fire is the source of the shadows they have always perceived as absolute. They are also shown the false objects and puppets that were used to represent the only reality they had ever known. Many believe they are dying as they struggle with the gravity of this confrontation. Fire is all they see.

Scream
as you die
inside the heat
crush confront the fire

Known shapes upon these walls are only shadows
Shadows

Blurred
Bleeding out
Blurs

Death is a waveform

To be awoken while your fingers are being broken

Being, being, being
Question what you know
Being, being, being
Question what you know
Being, being, being
To melt under pressure

Bleeding...

Death is a waveform

DEPARTURE/ESCAPE
==================

XIV. Bastard of Hyperion -- The captives are eventually freed and taken out of the cave. Some crawl, stumble, or run out of the cave’s mouth into the sunlight. Some are joyous and outstretch their arms in praise while others are overwhelmed with sorrow. Most are stricken with fear as laid before them is an ever-stretching graveyard. Many cannot focus and collapse under the immense light, heat and crushing presence of death. Some collapse in shock and die. One dweller sprints out in manic rage…. ranting about the impending doom before them. Squinting at the horizon she angrily curses at the blinding sun rejecting it’s place as a symbol of life and truth.

Reject idolatry
And your categorical identity
This mistaken reality
is a brutal distant memory

Bastard of Hyperion
I stab God’s eyes
Bastard of Hyperion
I stab God’s...

...Eyes

Distant echoes of salvation
Graves of minions
Distant echoes of salvation
Graves of legions

Bastard of Hyperion
Bastards of Hyperion
Bastard
Bastards

Xenophanes of Colophon (c. 570 – c. 475 BC) -- “The substance of God is spherical, in no way resembling man. He is all eye and all ear, but does not breathe; he is the totality of mind and thought, and is eternal.”

ENSLAVEMENT
=============

XV. Prince of Population --
The liberators transport their freshly discovered slaves to one of the wicked rulers of the outer realms. The brutality and terror of the outside world is too much for some and many attempt to flee. The prince swiftly executes those that run or defy him. Some are regretful in their escape and desire a return to the simplicity and ignorance of the cave…. or death.

The Prince

Now
Now that you see
You will believe
Reality is cleared with the gradual adjustment of sight
Your blanket reality is now excised

Overtake
Overthrow
Disembowel
if you Disobey x 2

All run now!
All run now!

Rise of the fiends
Of the fiends
Of the fiends

Overtake
Overthrow
Disembowel
if you Disobey x 4

The Prince

Niccolò Machiavelli (1469 – 1527) -- “He who becomes ruler of a city that is used to living under its own laws and does not knock it down, must expect to be knocked down by it.”

INDOCTRINATION
===============

XVI. Leave it to Them -- Within the grave domains are many conquered slaves and a small few who seek to defy the tyranny of the brutal dictators. There are also a large number of loyal, cruel servants who aid the rulers in manifesting control and dominance over both the population and its’ adversaries. Many of these followers go to extreme lengths to maintain comfort, wealth, control, and ultimately authority and influence. Many will torture or kill to maintain their wicked place alongside the savage kings.

Pawn
Rage
Oh, Operator
Oh, of land and long dead fathers

Corrosive
Ways
Oh, Operator
Oh, long dead fathers

Disciples trained as a means to praise
A cruel, inhuman phase
Let us degrade

Pawn
Rage
Escape blame
Far passed morality
Far past the…
...End

Leave it to them
Disciples trained to treat us as slaves
To treat us like dogs
Like dogs
Leave it to them

XVII. Shake My Hand, Bow Down, And Die -- As a means of self-preservation one of the cave dwellers desperately attempts to save herself and surrenders to the influence of the dark power structure. Deceptive and cunning in nature, those who survive must seek power or suffer in servitude.

Look at your eye
Look in your eyes
Look it, look it, look it

Look at my eye
Look in my eyes
Look it, look it, look it

Shake my hand, bow down, and die

I’m now one of them
You’re now one of them
We’re all one of them...

…ALL!

When crafted in a dead man’s mind
human lives don’t really matter at...

…ALL!

Shake my hand, bow down, and die

As Cobras mating
As Cobras killing
Tails intertwined

Slither, slither

I’m now one of them
You’re now one of them

Slither, slither

We’re all are one them

Slither, slither

Look at my eyes
Look in my eyes

XVIII. Dead Figurehead -- Now fully implanted within the corrupt empire this prime rebel pursues more power, more wealth, more control, and ultimately dominion over the existing warlords. To rule for oneself, one must decimate those who rule.

Dead figurehead

We drank the witches poison
Amoral elixir consumption
We are impermanent
I am indifferent

Dead figurehead dead
Dead figurehead

I damn the grave polis
No populous caressed
Maniac leaders hanged in effigy
The blood of fascists I inject in me

Dead Figurehead

REBELLION
==========

XIX. Entropy Shrine -- The battered citizens await in fear and hopelessness after conceding to yet another vanquishing conqueror. Most are divided, torn into factions, and exhausted. Many fail in their allegiances and sacrifice their hearts for a tiny seat at the glutenous feast.

We segment off the population
And define the power and control
We DE-activate the rights of people
And crush the nature of one’s soul

We bathe in the
In the blood
Of humans
x2

Stare too long at the sun and the sun shall melt you
Peerless mammals
Wreathed in devastation
Eternal acquiescence*

ETERNAL
ACQUIESCENCE

Rally the flies
Rally the flies
Rally the flies
To devour the carcass

Go after life
Go after life
Go after life
Or it goes after you

*acquiescence - the reluctant acceptance of something without protest

RETURN/DECIMATION
==================

XX. Back to Halycon -- Within the war-ridden struggles of the outer world the prime rebel and now de facto ruler has taken brutal command of her loyal insurgency. Enraged, she descends with her army back down into the cave, viciously tears out the eyes of the remaining chained prisoners and sets the cave ablaze. As the cave smolders and burns, she exits the cave, digs a deep grave, slashes off her eyelids, and awaits the looming collapse.

It’s too late for you
It’s too late for us
It’s too late for you
It’s too late for me

I invade their sleep
And gouge out their eyes
I tear off the face
and leave only skull
...behind

To now behold the genuine substance
Even the crusts on the husk of your spine
They bleed in time
With the pulsation as you die

To now behold...

The skin
The muscle
The fibers
Slough off showing skeleton

The religions
The politics
The structures
They all decline

All of nature’s colors
Breaks off in shards
Stretching for...
Ever and ever and ever

THE END
========

XXI. Telos --
In a final expression of devastation the prime destroyer and her armies gather for one last act: the expulsion of life and the utter extinction of all that exists. Engulfed in a monolith of fire and torn apart by colossal waves of heat and radiation the landscape shutters as it disintegrates. In finality, back to the source.

I request the universe and simply demand more

I ask for the ever and devastate the core

Return to matter, ash, dust, and particulate
Return to matter
Ash and dust

The past, present, and future
Splayed and disfigured
The past, present, and future
Gone.

Unfurled in tendrils
Engulfing the organic and mechanic
Like coffins of children
A cascade in decay

Yellow, whirling smoke became light

This world
I bare witness to the ending of this world
This world
I demand the ever and I decimate

It crumbles into nothing
It crumbles into everything
